![]() Indiana Data Center Remote
Backup runs on all Windows operating systems from Windows 2000 to the
latest version, including 32 and 64 bit Workstations and Servers. It
runs in the background, and will not interfere with other programs you
run. Through the simple and intuitive user interface, you can control
which of your files are backed up.
Indiana Data Center Remote Backup operates by defining Backup Sets, which are sets of files and a schedule for backing up those files. You can add new Backup Sets, Delete, Copy, and Save them. Backup Sets are automatically executed according to their schedules. ![]() After installation and
configuration of the Indiana Data Center Remote Backup Client software,
your predefined backup sets will run automatically. Indiana Data
Center Remote Backup runs in the background without interfering with
any other programs. You will notice the Indiana Data Center
Remote Backup icon on the System Tray.
At the predetermined time as established in your backup set scheduling, the Indiana Data Center Remote Backup client communicates with the remote backup server and determines which files need backed up and what kind of backup is scheduled for that night. It then compresses the selected files into archives that are often far smaller than the original files. These archives are then encrypted using an encryption key known only to you, so no one, not even Indiana Data Center personnel, can read your files. After your files are compressed and encrypted, Indiana Data Center Remote Backup uses your Internet connection and sends your files off site to Indiana Data Center's Storage Area Network (SAN). Indiana Data Center Remote Backup then verifies your files were successfully backed up and goes back to sleep. Your valuable data is now safe off-site. If your data is compromised or destroyed, it can easily be restored through the client software from the Indiana Data Center Remote Backup Storage Area Network (SAN). ![]() The Remote Backup software compresses
your files before transferring them to your allotted storage space on
the servers at Indiana Data Center. Your required storage space
may be considerably less than the total size of the data on your
computer/server(s) that you choose to backup. A typical
data file set compresses to about 50-60% of its native size. Some
files compress more, and some do not compress at all. The 50-60%
compression is an average and may not be true in all cases.
Multimedia content, digital pictures, zip archives and other previously
compressed file formats will compress very little or not at all.

your selected files, Indiana Data Center Remote Backup uses an
exclusive process called BitBackup to substantially reduce the amount
of time it takes to back up files - up to 99.7%. BitBackup backs
up only the parts of files that have changed since the previous
backup. For example, if you change a single 5-character word in a
2-megabyte word processing document, BitBackup will back up only the
5-character word. BitBackup is particularly useful in backing up
large files like databases that may change only slightly every day.
